Block Party (2025)

Since the very beginning, we dreamed of creating a special summertime blend - something versatile, easy to brew, and delicious whether served hot or iced.

The idea for Block Party was first born in 2023, around a (far too small) WeWork conference table, where members of our marketing, education, and roasting teams gathered to brainstorm. We had plenty of ideas, but one thing was clear: we wanted a blend that could do it all - taste amazing in any form, and be a joy to share.

Design

While Sam (our Green Coffee Buyer) sourced the components for a juicy, fruit-forward coffee, the marketing team got to work on the packaging. You can read more about our design process in a blog post from our first-year launch, but for this third anniversary, we thought it’d be fun to revisit the original Canva mock-up that started it all:

This original design was built from nothing but clip art and big dreams, which we passed along to our fantastic illustrator for some much-needed assistance. Three years later, that same scrappy, joy-filled spirit lives on in every bag of Block Party - a blend that’s become a true summer staple for our team and community alike.

Sourcing

Sourced and roasted with versatility in mind, Block Party was crafted for fun, creativity, and as an example of the great coffees that we're able to offer through intentional relationships at origin. Bright and refreshing, this year's components of Block Party feature coffees from some of our favorite producers in Antioquia, Colombia. The lots we've selected this year are 100% chiroso, a variety specific to Antioquia that we've come to adore.

Santa Bárbara Estate, Santa Bárbara, Antioquia

Santa Bárbara Estate comprises five neighboring farms plus Pergamino, a vertically integrated dry mill and exporter. Run by Pedro Echavarría, this multigenerational family operation is our longest running supply chain relationship in Colombia.

Finca El Encanto, Urrao, Antioquia

El Encanto is a newer plot belonging to Jorge Cuellar, who previously appeared on our menu as one of Los Tres Mosqueteros. Jorge Cuellar has worked in coffee as a farm manager, picker, and laborer. Just recently, Jorge was able to acquire his own farm in Urrao, which he calls El Encanto. This is just the second harvest available to us as Jorge and his family continue to build out the farm. We're excited to continue buying coffee from Jorge and to celebrate the excellence of Antioquia's coffees.

Giveback

Each year, in recognition of Pride Month, we collect a donation of $1 from each retail bag of Block Party sold in June to support The Center - an organization located in the heart of the West Village, less than half a mile from our Charles Street café. Founded in 1983, The Center offers a wide spectrum of programs for the LGBTQ+ community across New York City and beyond.

We hope you’ll give Block Party a try (as a Flash Brew) soon!
