Las Moritas

Las Moritas is the distinguished farm of Higinio and Aura Gómez. Located northeast of Guatemala City in the Sierra de las Minas, Las Moritas has been the source of some of our favorite coffees over the years.

This lot, produced in collaboration with Los Volcanes, is from an exceptional harvest of a variety they are calling "nance," recently uncertain whether it is actually yellow catuaí or yellow caturra. In a round, balanced cup, we're tasting brown sugar and molasses, ginger cookie, warm spice, pineapple, pear, and orange zest.

Finca Las Moritas was established in 1988 when Don Higinio and Doña Aura purchased their first plot of land, naming it San José Las Moritas. The farm is located in the department of El Progreso and within the broader region known as the Sierra de las Minas, a rugged mountain range containing everything from desert scrublands to montane cloud forests. Today Las Moritas occupies 70 hectares of land with impressive elevations reaching 1,800 meters...

I love this coffee. We're kicking off the Central American harvest with Higinio Gomez and Los Volcanes, some of the best in the game.

    Smooth

I used to drink all dark roast, but am enjoying branching out into medium and light roasts. This one is smooth and delicious! I made it as a pour over and drank it with half and half.

    Delightful, easy sipping

We prepare this in our French Press and it is SO GOOD. Don't be intimidated by notes, this is a very energizing, smooth roast. Its been a crowd pleaser with guests, too. Does great on its own or with a touch of milk.

Good way to start the morning

I have always liked Guatemala coffees, and this one is a real pleaser. It is full bodied, smooth and very pleasing. Medium roast, French press.
