Meselech Tube has been growing coffee on her farm in Sidama since the 1990s. Today she is one of thirty-something individuals who participate in a program with Lulo Coffees designed to increase market access for small-scale farmers in Ethiopia.

Meselech focuses on natural processed coffees with outstanding results. Her coffee is sweet and syrupy, intensely fruity but comfortably low in acidity. In a range of brewing methods we taste blueberry, strawberry, and banana along with subtle flavors of vanilla tea and honey.

Meselech Tube tends a three hectare farm in Bensa, Sidama called Shanteweyne Farm. Like many in Ethiopia, the farm is a family business, and today three of Meselech's adult children assist in its daily operation. 

The farm is planted with three of the heirloom varieties cataloged by the Jimma Agricultural Research Center in the 1970s which are intercropped with enset, banana, avocado, mango, and timber trees. Meselechharvests her coffee from November to January, then dries her coffee on the farm using raised beds under direct sunlight.

    Good stuff

    Tasted the hints of fruity notes. I have had better Ethiopians but this was certainly up there!

    Really difficult to brew (took a really long time to pass through the filter). Also really lacked the fruit forwardness you find in an Ethiopian bean.

    Branding is on point though.
