Chiroso, once known to us as caturra chiroso, is an incredible coffee variety. Discovered in the remote town of Urrao, these plants appear to be a local mutation of caturra, a much more common cultivar planted throughout Latin America in the last century. Meaning "ragged" or "tattered," Chiroso first drew attention for its unusual appearance, remarkably high yields, and mind-blowing flavor profile.
This coffee is juicy and clean, full of tropical fruit and florals. Look for watermelon and cherry candies, mango, pineapple, and lime. Then, as it cools, lovely florals redolent of jasmine, orange blossom, and rose petals.
